SPGMI & JESG – Award Competition Terms & Conditions
1. This Award Competition (the “Competition”) is open to entries (each an “Award Entry”) received simultaneously at [pm-research@pageantmedia.com and AcademicESGaward@spglobal.com (for Pageant Media Limited and S&P Global Market Intelligence Inc, together the “Organizer”) between midnight in London on January 16th 2023 and midnight in London on March 31st 2023. Any Award Entry received outside of that time will not be accepted into the Competition.
2. Each Award Entry can only be submitted by one or more persons (“Award Entrant”, up to a limit of four persons in total) engaged in full time post graduate teaching and/or research at a university on January 16th 2023.
3. By submitting an Award Entry to the Competition each Award Entrant accepts and submits himself/herself/themselves jointly and severally to the terms and conditions of this Competition stated here.
4. Each Award Entrant can submit only one Award Entry. If an Award Entrant submits more than one Award Entry then every Award Entry in which that Award Entrant has participated will be disqualified.
5. Where a person features among a group who comprise an Award Entrant then he/she cannot also feature among any group comprising another Award Entrant. Breach of this provision will automatically disqualify the Award Entry for all Award Entrants which include that person.
6. Persons who are employed by or for, or provide services to (1) Pageant Media Limited or any of its subsidiary companies and/or (2) S&P Global Inc or by any of its subsidiary companies, full time or part time at any time during 2021 or 2022 (and the siblings, parents or children of such persons and any other person sharing their household during any part of 2020 or 2021) are prohibited from being an Award Entrant.
7. Each Award Entry must in order to qualify for the Competition (in addition to compliance with the above requirements) comprise:-
7.1 The full name, date of birth, home address and current place of post graduate study or research of every person among that Award Entrant; and
7.2 A five hundred (500) word English language proposal in Microsoft Word for a proposed original and previously unpublished article by the Award Entrant upon the subject of “Climate” (the “Proposal”), which could later be expanded by the Award Entrant into a full research article of 3,000 to 5,000 words in the English language (the “Article”) which must conform to the JESG Article Submission Guidelines published at https://jesg.pm-research.com/authors.
8. The Organizer will consider all Award Entries that meet the qualifying conditions above (“Qualifying Entries”) during April and May 2023 and announce the successful Award Entry and Award Entrant (the “Winner”) on or around May 1st 2023. The Organizer’s judging panel will determine which Award Entry wins the Award against the criteria of originality and novelty of idea and approach, quality of clear thinking and clear expression, quality of underlying data and research and best use of available data. The judgment of the Organizer’s judging panel is entirely in their own unfettered discretion and final. The Winner shall not disclose and shall keep confidential that he/she/they have won the Award until that fact is published by or for the Organizer which is anticipated to happen on 1st June 2023.
9. An Award Entrant who becomes the Winner by submitting his/her/their Award Entry qualifies for:-
9.1 free of charge access (subject to its standard academic end user license agreement) to the ESG relevant online subscription services published by S&P Global Market Intelligence LLC for a period of four (4) calendar months commencing May 1st 2023 to enable the Winner to access information and analysis with which to develop the Proposal into the Article; and
9.2 publication of the either and/or both of the Proposal and the Article and of the recording of an interview in such respect in JESG magazine published by Pageant Media Limited within six (6) months after the Article is successfully Completed (as defined below).
10. The Winner shall be jointly and severally responsible to:-
10.1 author and deliver the Article in a manner which conforms to the JESG Article Submission Guidelines by July 31st 2023;
10.2 participate in a timely manner in the Organizer’s peer review, copy editing and proof reading and correction processes during August, September and October 2023 (and longer if necessary) to ready the Article for publication in the Winter Edition of Pageant Media Limited’s JESG Magazine,
10.3 participate in an interview about themselves and about the Article face to face or online, if necessary, with the Organizer to occur during September 2023 of which the Organizer is entitled to make an audio visual recording (“Recording”)/
11. The Winner hereby assigns in consideration of his/her/their Award Entry being considered for the Competition (and shall sign such further documents in such respect as the Organizer or either of them may reasonably require) all world wide right, title and property including but not limited to copyright (free of any third party interest) in perpetuity in the Award Entry, Article and Recording to the Organizer who shall be free to use, copy, edit and publish or distribute them howsoever it wishes provided that all the moral rights of the Winner therein are reserved to the Winner.
12. The Winner warrant and represents to and agrees with the Organizer that the Award Entry and the Article are and will be his/her/their own previously unpublished work and will not infringe any right, title or property of a third party and will not plagiarize the prior works of any third party and will not include material that is defamatory or obscene.
13. These Terms & Conditions are entered into under the laws of England and Wales. Any and all disputes arising howsoever from these Terms and Conditions or from the performance or non-performance of a party to them shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
